Hello clean-air-and-climate friends: Last month we re-launched the Clean The Darn Air campaign with this letter in the Tribune by Dave Carrier, plus an email blast and posts on Instagram and Twitter. This month we’re continuing our effort to prepare for a signature-gathering campaign in 2023 in order to make the ballot in Nov 2024!
Looking forward: Please join us as we push the campaign forward with bi-weekly calls on zoom (link available via email), currently scheduled for 7pm MT every other Wednesday night: W June 2, W June 16, W June 30, etc. All are welcome, if that time doesn’t work for you then let’s try to find a time that does, and FYI meetings are strictly limited to 40 minutes because we’re using a free zoom account (!). Our focus this year is on exploring policy options, building support for the campaign, and learning from our previous effort to make the ballot. Speaking of which…
Looking back: Below (and as a separate PDF here) is a summary of the number of valid signatures we collected in 2019 in our effort to make the Nov 2020 ballot. We needed to hit a statewide signature target (10% of active voters) and a similar target in 26 of the 29 state senate districts. The districts highlighted in green are the 6 best and the ones highlighted in yellow are the 6 worst; overall we got about 20% of the way there, which was pretty amazing given that “conventional wisdom” was that we only had about 1% of the resources that we needed. But obviously we need to do better next time around! Here are ten thoughts from our blog from a few months ago, but please holler if you have additional thoughts about lessons learned or suggestions for 2024!
