Hello clean-air-and-climate friends: Please join us on Zoom (link available via email) from 7-7:40pm MT every other Wednesday night: W Feb 22, W Mar 8, etc. All are welcome! We’ll talk about the Four P’s—Policy, Plan, Purchasing Power, and People—and our progress in qualifying for the Nov 2024 ballot by collecting signatures from F Feb 17 to W Nov 22, 2023. We have to hit targets statewide (just announced: 135,000 signatures) and in 26 of the 29 state Senate districts!
Policy: Everything from a one-sentence summary to the full legal language is on our website, and here’s a Google Slides outline of the campaign. Feedback and questions are welcome!
Plan / People: We made it through the required public hearings, we’ve got our petition packets, and we’re ready to start gathering signatures! Check out the Guide to Gathering Signatures and this 2-pager with instructions for signature gatherers, and then click on the links below for event calendars. If you want to help gather at one of these events, try to add a Comment on the event calendars below with your name and contact info (preferably cell phone); note that you may need a gmail address to add a Comment, and note that these calendars are public documents, so email us if you can’t add a Comment or don’t want to make your info public. We will provide training, materials, and hand warmers!
- North of SLC: We’ve got a group of students at USU planning some signature-gathering on campus, hopefully starting next week!
- South of Provo: In St George, we can gather at Utah Tech before a 7:30pm concert on Sat Feb 25; a 7pm basketball game plus a 7:30pm concert on T Feb 28; a basketball game at 7pm on W Mar 1, a 7pm basketball game plus a 7:30pm concert on F Mar 3, and a 7:30pm concert on Sat Mar 4. And in Cedar City there’s a concert in the 1,000-seat Heritage Center Theater on W Mar 1. We are working on getting signatures packets down there ASAP, so email us or post a Comment if you want to help out in SE Utah!
- West side, SLC to Provo: Not much right now, but come help with east-side events at UVU and in SLC!
- East side, SLC to Provo: We will be gathering at UVU before a concert at 2pm on Sat Feb 18 and hopefully on campus (inside the library) during weekdays, plus on campus and before concerts or other campus events on T Feb 28, W Mar 1, and Th Mar 2. And folks from around the state will be coming to NBA All-Star Weekend in SLC events, including NBA Crossover at the Salt Palace F/Sat/Sun from 11am-8pm. We can also gather before the All-Star Celebrity Game, F Feb 17 at 5pm at the U of U Huntsman Center; before the Rising Stars game, F Feb 17 at 7pm at Vivint Arena; before the All-Star Practice, Sat Feb 18 at 11am at the Huntsman Center; before the HBCU Game, Sat Feb 18 at 1pm at the Huntsman Center; before the Slam Dunk Contest etc., Sat Feb 18 at 6pm at Vivint Arena; before the G-League Game, Sun Feb 19 at 1pm at the Huntsman Center; and before the All-Star Game, Sun Feb 19 at 6pm at the Huntsman Center. There are also many other SLC events, including (during daylight hours) college basketball on Th Feb 23 (5pm) and Sat Feb 25 (12pm and 6pm), plus a concert on Sat Feb 25 at 6pm and Disney on Ice at Vivint Arena at 11am and 3pm on Sat Mar 4 and Sun Mar 5.
No experience necessary, just add a Comment in the calendars above or email us and we will get you in the loop and provide you with training, materials, and hand warmers!
Purchasing power: If you can’t help with signature gathering (or even if you can!) please consider a donation to help cover the costs of printing petition packets, stickers, and signboards… plus we need $60 to buy 60 gel ink pens because we learned Tuesday night that cheap ballpoint pens don’t work in sub-zero temperatures!
In the news: Lots of news stories about the campaign are posted on our media page; see in particular the 50-minute interview that London Kelley and I did with Utah Public Radio’s Tom Williams. Also, here’s a Feb 4 reminder of the importance of our campaign from Ashley Nash of the Deseret News: “Research compares breathing Utah air for a day to smoking up to five cigarettes.”
