Hello clean-air-and-climate friends:
Petition packets ready this week: Our signature petition packets are at the printers (!) and we are planning a gathering on Tuesday evening June 25 in SLC from 6-8pm or so to put materials together and discuss next steps for the campaign. Email us at info@CleanTheDarnAir.org if you’re interested in joining the fun or if you want a petition packet (which you can also get at Kiitos Brewery on Thursday night). See also the Guide to Gathering The Darn Signatures and our “emissionaries” plan. (PS. The signature packets were slightly delayed because of a delay in getting the final Fiscal Estimate; it finally arrived on Thursday and the short version is that there were no surprises. You can read some details here, and we’re hoping to add to that page some additional details, including a spreadsheet, in the days ahead.)
Calculator tool: Check out the new calculator tool posted on our website that you and others can use to see how the Clean The Darn Air policy will affect your pocketbook! (Please email us if you encounter any problems, if you have suggestions or feedback, or if you want to share your results.) See also our income quintiles analysis that shows a (modest) net plus for the bottom two income quintiles, i.e., the 40% of households with the lowest incomes.
Events / In the news: The great folks at Kiitos Brewery in SLC are hosting a campaign event on Thursday June 27; details in the PDF here, if you’re 21+ stop by anytime from 5:30-10:00pm! Two of our young volunteers (Tim Woodruff and Ronan Carrier) will be doing a KRCL RadioACTiveinterview on W June 26 (6-7pm on 90.3 KRCL). And I’ll be in Logan on W June 26 for a comedy-and-carbon-tax talk. And here’s food for thought from the NYT that helps showcase why our effort is so important: “Blue States Roll Out Aggressive Climate Strategies. Red States Keep to the Sidelines.“ Let’s change that!
Yard signs and stickers and signboards: If you want a yard sign or a sticker (for your car, bicycle, laptop, etc.) all we’re asking is that you send in a donation that helps us cover our costs so that the campaign operation stays sustainable. Donate just $5 and we’ll mail you an envelope with two kinds of stickers, Even better, donate $20 and we’ll hand-deliver those stickers plus a yard sign! If you’re a student or otherwise can’t afford it but want stickers or a yard sign then just let us know, and if you’re able to double your donation then that will help us provide yard signs and stickers to everyone who wants them… thank you!
