Hello clean-air-and-climate friends:

College chapters and events: This coming week is the start of the school year at UVU in Orem, Dixie State in St George, and SLCC and the U of U in Salt Lake City. Encourage students you know to connect up with our campaign’s college chapter leaders and get involved, or get involved yourself! In addition to gathering on campuses we’re also preparing for gathering at football games, so email info@DarnAir.org to sign up, especially for the first game: BYU football hosting the U of U in Provo on Thursday Aug 29. If you’re new to gathering signatures then we will provide you with materials and training!

Other upcoming events: There are sold-out Red Butte concerts in SLC tonight (F) and Monday night, and this weekend we’ll also be at the Utah County Fair, at farmers markets in Logan and all around the state, at the RSL soccer game in Sandy this Saturday night and next Saturday night, at the Ogden Twilight concerts on Saturday and Wednesday, and at the final stage of the Tour of Utah bicycle race in Park City on Sunday. Email info@DarnAir.org to sign up, or just show up! And BTW the Provo chapter also has its own Instagram account with more info about events there: @CleanTheDarnAirProvo.

Signature totals and the 250 Club: By next week we will be closing in on 11,587 signatures, which is 10% of the number we need by Feb 18 2020 in order to qualify for the Nov 2020 ballot! Congratulations all around, especially to Anil Seth for joining the 250 Club (folks who have gathered 250 signatures) and to me (Yoram Bauman) for hitting 2,000 signatures! FYI the hardworking folks in the state’s county clerk offices have 30 days from the turn-in date of each packet to count up the number of valid signatures, so there’s a significant lag between turn-in and validation, but as of M Aug 12 they’ve counted 4,231 valid signatures. Here’s a tally of valid signatures by senate district, based on data from the Lt Governor; see also this infographic from Aug 7.
