Hello clean-air-and-climate friends:

Whatever you think of football, games are a great opportunity for gathering signatures! The season starts tonight (Thursday) with BYU hosting the U of U in Provo; join the group by showing up at 6pm at the intersection near the SW corner of the stadium. (If you need materials or training we’re happy to provide both!) After tonight, the next football games are in 9 days, on Saturday Sept 7, with home games at the U of U in SLC (game starts at 11am), at USU in Logan (5:30pm), at Weber State in Ogden (6pm), and at Dixie State in St George (at 7pm). Email info@DarnAir.org to help gather signatures in the 2 hours before the game starts!

Whatever you think of baseball, games are a great opportunity for gathering signatures! The Salt Lake Bees have their last home stand of the season starting tomorrow (Friday), with close-to-sold out games starting at 6:35pm on Friday and 7:05pm on Saturday, plus 6:05pm on Sunday and then the last game of the season at 1:05pm on Monday (Labor Day). Email info@DarnAir.org to help gather signatures starting 1 hour  before the game starts, plus we’ve got a couple tickets each to the games on F and Sat if you want to enjoy the game as a reward!

Whatever you think of American Idol, auditions are a great opportunity for gathering signatures! There may be a line with a thousand people in it by the time you open this email because today (Thursday) there are auditions for the next season of American Idol at SLC Northwest Community Center, 1300 W. 300 N., Salt Lake City, UT 84116. The auditions lasts all day but morning is probably best for gathering signatures… and if you go please let us know how it is!

Campuses, concerts, and farmers markets: Connect up with our college chapters, gather signatures at farmers markets all around the state (many but not all on Saturdays) and at concerts at Red Butte (tonight [Thursday] and also W Sept 4), at the Gallivan Center in SLC (F Aug 30), at Daybreak (F Aug 30 and Sat Aug 31), and at the Elton John concert in SLC on W Sept 4. Email info@DarnAir.org for details, we will get you all the training and materials you need!

Signature totals and the 250 Club: As promised, this week we passed 11,587 signatures turned in, which is 10% of the number we need by Feb 18 2020 in order to qualify for the Nov 2020 ballot! Congratulations all around, especially to U of U chapter leader Kelly Kerr for joining the 250 Club (folks who gather 250+ signatures).

Emissionary bonus for signatures from outside of SLC: As discussed last week, Emissionaries who gather 1,000 signatures now get $500 if they gather in SLC or $1000 if they gather signatures outside of SLC. Email info@DarnAir.org to start now at the great events this week!

In the news: Jean Lown has an LTE (Letter to the Editor) in the Salt Lake Tribune: “See the dangers posed by climate change”. And Mitt Romney “discussed the benefits of a carbon tax” at the Sutherland Institute. (If you don’t want to gather signatures at the BYU – U of U game tonight you can go on a night hike to honor Mitt and the political middle by helping to make a giant #M sign at halftime.)
