Hello clean-air-and-climate friends:

We’ve submitted 20,000 signatures! Thanks to everyone for helping us get this far, and congratulations to Callie Northrup, Joel Ban, and Ronan Carrier for making the 250 Club of folks who’ve gathered 250+ signatures! FYI the latest state tally (which is delayed by up to 30 days because of the time it takes to validate signatures) is that they’ve validated 12,000 signatures as of M Sept 23. More details here, original data here, and if you want a really detailed look at the data then here is a spreadsheet that breaks everything down by packet number and by senate district: for each packet number, how many valid signatures were counted in each senate district, how many signers were unreadable or not registered to vote or didn’t have an address match, etc. The Summary tab at the end summarizes each packet:  how many signatures we counted in that packet before turn-in, the % of that count that have been validated, and the % of that count that have been checked. (Rows showing that 0% have been counted are for packets that haven’t yet been examined by the county clerk.) My main conclusion from all this data is that it’s really important to try to get young people (and everyone else, too, but especially young people like college students) to include their date of birth because that provides another way for the county clerk to validate their signature if the address they put down doesn’t match the one on file.

Upcoming events: In addition to signature-gathering at farmers markets and on college campuses around the state, please come help gather before the last two RSL soccer games in Sandy (tonight [W] at 7:30pm and Sunday at 5:30pm), at the last Ogden Twilight Series concert (Friday at 6pm), before Saturday’s college football games in Logan, Ogden, Cedar City, and SLC (game times: USU 5:30pm, Weber State 6pm, SUU 6:05pm [join paul@DarnAir.org for homecoming!], and the U of U at 8pm), at Moab Pride on Saturday (email bob@DarnAir.org to join him there!) and at other events in SLC all day Friday and Saturday: concerts at Abravanel Hall at 10am and 7:30pm on Friday and 5:30pm on Saturday, Wild Kratts at the Eccles at 1pm and 4:30pm on Saturday, and a Bob Segar concert at Vivint Arena on Saturday at 8pm. Email info@DarnAir.org for details, or use the sign-up sheet linked from here, or just show up!

The path ahead: We’ve got a ways to go in order to get 116,000 signatures by Feb 18, 2020, and in order to get there we’re either going to need (1) more volunteers, (2) a significant cash infusion (on the order of $100k-$200k, which is not that much in the grand scheme of things but it’s 5-10 times more than we’ve raised so far), or (3) the endorsement of a prominent conservative to show that we have a path to victory and to help us get volunteers and/or funding. We are working hard on #2 and #3 (donations and suggestions are welcome!) but task #1 is to recruit more volunteers, so please tell your friends and family and neighbors. Many hands make light work!

Onward!
